About

Imagine a place where the cares and worries of the world can be left behind for a few hours, where you can spend time in bookish solitude, or perhaps with friends before a roaring fire. A place of rest, a haven of sorts, a place where you can explore other worlds without leaving your overstuffed armchair. A sanctuary for bookish souls, for those who dream... perhaps it is a cozy stone cottage, or a haven like Rivendell, or even a hobbit home in the Shire. Good food, good drink, the presence of dear friends... and lots of books. Would you go? I would... in a shot.

I'm Greg and this is my virtual book den where I talk about books, films and anything else that comes to mind. I've always been an avid reader and this is a way for me to share that love of reading and faraway places with likeminded souls. The beautiful thing about the book blogging community is that there is a place for everyone- no matter your genre or your interests- there are havens, or sanctuaries, all over the Internet where people can come together. This is one of those, and welcome!

I enjoy fantasy the most but also love dystopians and science fiction, as well as the occasional psychological thriller. I read an occasional YA contemporary as well. My interests are pretty diverse so you'll likely see a wide range of reviews at this site. I like to shine a light on bookstores as well, and have never met a used bookstore I didn't like! In addition to my real life I do freelance writing and have written for the Knights of the Dinner Table magazine and the SF blog SFSignal

My other interests include music, traveling and writing the kinds of stories I like to read.

I've recently added a star rating system to my reviews, just to give a better sense of how I feel about a book. Here's my scale.

5 stars - Excellent, one of my favorite books

4 stars - Very good, possibly a favorite, and definitely a book I recommend and/ or re- read. A step above the usual.

3 stars - most books will be rated 3 here. This is a good book, one I may recommend and it may just not have made it to the next level for whatever reason.

2 stars - I didn't care for this book, it may still have appeal for someone else, but not my thing.

1 star - Dracarys

  1. When I was a kid, I loved Trixie Belden! I even wanted to change my name to Trixie, and I made my family call me that for at least a month. Lol.

  2. Hi Greg :)
I thought I'd pop you a message to tell you I’ve nominated you for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award! I figure "sisterhood" is a relative term, lol. Here’s the link: http://www.anovelstart.com/sisterhood-of-the-world-bloggers-award/
I figured it's something a little different lol. It's my first award so just leave me a note if you don't want to be linked again. I wasn't sure if you did them or not but thought what the hell :) why not?
    Enjoy x
